Cork, Kilkenny & the Ring of Kerry

You’ll feel bestowed with all the luck of the Irish on this tour of some of Ireland’s southern gems, as you discover a rich tapestry of traditional cities, medieval towns and towering castles scattered across an unapologetically wild and windswept rural landscape.

There’s more to Ireland besides Dublin, as you’ll discover on this tour of the southern region of the Emerald Isle, including its so called ‘second city’ Cork, the atmospheric medieval city of Kilkenny, the ruggedly beautiful Ring of Kerry trail and its gateway town, Killarney.

As a lively University City, Cork offers all the craic that Ireland is famous for, but is sure to stick steadfastly to its traditional root, with locals openly declaring it the 'real capital' of this tiny country floating in the North Atlantic. Just outside of the city lie two of the highlights of this tour, Blarney Castle - home to the notorious Blarney Stone, and the Jameson whiskey distillery in Old Midleton where we will enjoy a tour of both.

Travelling north east of Cork you come to the city of Kilkenny, small in size for a city and with strong medieval roots evident in the Medieval Mile that runs through its centre, starting at a cluster of riverside castle buildings and ending at the city's 13th -century cathedral and its round tower - only of only two such towers in Ireland that can be climbed to the top.

Crossing the country towards the west coast and to County Kerry and the Iveragh Peninsular that juts into the ocean, we discover an unbeatable example of why Ireland is known as the Emerald Isle. The scenic route that follows the coastline here is known as the Ring of Kerry, and is world famous for being one of the most dramatically beautiful trails. At the inland edge of the peninsular, the lakeside town of Killarney is used as a perfect jumping off point into the area's spectacular countryside. The town is positioned at the gateway to the Killarney National Park, which is a natural wonderland in its own right.
