The grittily appealing picture painted by Nordic noir has sent crowds of visitors hotfooting it to Scandinavia. They come to explore the canals of colourful Copenhagen, watch the Northern Lights flicker across the sky above Trondheim and Kiruna, and drink in the unique scenery of the Norwegian fjords. Most of Scandinavia’s major cities are clustered around the coast, and the region has a close relationship with the sea. When the locals aren’t kayaking around the fjords or picnicking on pristine beaches, they’re donning ice skates to island-hop across frozen seas or ice fishing inside the Arctic Circle. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Most definitely.
